Our Story

Kusha yoga mats was founded in 2018 by passionate yogi, Victoria, who wanted to change the way the standard yoga mat looked, performed and most importantly how it is was constructed, making it as environmentally kind as possible.

Doing our bit

Our goal was to design and produce a yoga mat that was environmentally kind.  It had to be PVC free and not contain harmful toxic glues or harmful inks. Not only were our mats to be nature friendly they also had to be made well and perform to a high standard. They had to be very grippy, even when hot and sweaty. The mat must be firm but also cushioned enough to avoid injury.

Our Ultra mats are constructed from two layers

The black base layer is made from naturally sourced tree rubber which has been bonded using ingredients that are not harmful to human use or the environment. This base layer gives a firm but cushioned base layer to support the yogis during their routine. The top layer has been constructed using a non-toxic and eco-friendly polyurethane. This layer has a soft but firm feel, is smooth to the touch and has our unique non-slip surface which prevents slips even when sweaty.

Our Art mat have the same base layer as the Ultra, so made from naturally sourced tree rubber

The top micro fibre top layer is made from recycled plastic bottles using water-based inks on all of our designs. The layers are bonded together using nontoxic glues.

Saving your mat from landfill

Standard plastic-based yoga mats take on average 100-1000 years to degrade in usually landfill circumstances. We are proud to say that our mats will biodegrade anywhere between 1-5 years depending on the conditions. We are continually evolving, seeking the latest materials and designs to produce the best and most environmentally yoga mats on the market.
